The Monthly Payment That Stopped Being My Mother’s Safety Net Overnight

Walter sat beside my hospital bed and read every message Diane had sent from the cruise terminal. Then he opened the payment history and saw nine years of support that had ended with one decision.

A folder in my mother’s name.
A folder I had never seen.
Inside was information that changed what I thought I knew about the last nine years.
And when Diane returned from her cruise expecting everything to continue exactly as before, she discovered the one thing she never prepared for.
