Schumer Blames Trump For Not Uniting Country After ICE Facility Shot

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is attempting to blame President Donald Trump after a reported leftist shot at an ICE detention facility in Dallas, Texas, leaving multiple detainees dead or injured.

During an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Schumer immediately attacked Trump in the wake of another politically motivated shooting, claiming that Trump’s rhetoric has contributed to such attacks.
“It has to come from the top, and like on so many other things, Donald Trump is deficient in this, totally deficient,” Schumer claimed.
Schumer noted Trump’s response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, saying he spent the day after the shooting placing blame on the left “instead of just bringing Americans together to mourn.”
“Donald Trump’s busy pointing fingers before he even had evidence,” Schumer said. “That doesn’t help.”
Schumer said he did not yet know everything that happened at the ICE office in Dallas, but condemned the violence as “just terrible.”
“Everybody, right, left, center, I don’t care what your politics are, has to speak out strongly against it,” he said.
Schumer conceded that he did not know what weapon was used to shoot at the Dallas ICE detention facility, but immediately demanded “better laws on guns.”
“We got something done a few years ago, but it’s just rampant, and we have to do more,” he said. “I’m the author of the Brady Law, the assault weapons ban. It’s become almost every day one of these things happen, and we can’t just sit there and do nothing.”
“There are many more things we can do about gun trafficking, about who sells the guns, how they get the guns,” Schumer said. “There are things we can do without impinging on the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns.”

Federal authorities described the incident as “targeted violence” after they found unfired ammunition near the shooter’s body with “Anti ICE” written on a casing.
“This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.
An ICE spokesperson announced that three individuals were shot at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday morning.
In a news conference, Dallas police announced that two individuals, including the shooter, had passed away due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The gunfire did not result in any injuries to ICE officers.
Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas FBI Joe Rothrock stated at a news conference that the round discovered near the shooter, who was deceased when police arrived, contained messages that were “anti-ICE in nature.” He further stated that the assault was a form of “targeted violence.”
An ICE spokesperson verified that the shooter fired multiple rounds from a nearby roof or an elevated position, which were directed into the sally port of the field office.
At least five shell casings were found at the Dallas shooting scene, one of which had “ANTI-ICE” written on it in blue ink, according to a photo of the casings FBI Director Kash Patel shared on X.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed there were “multiple fatalities.”
“There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas ICE Detention Facility,” Noem wrote on X. “Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
“While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families,” she added.
“The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,” Vice President JD Vance wrote on X.
