The scream cut through the hospital lobby so sharply that conversations stopped mid-sentence.
Phones lowered.
Shoes froze against polished floors.
Even the automatic doors seemed to pause between opening and closing.
At the center of the chaos stood a little boy no older than eight.Barefoot.
Trembling.
Clinging desperately to a newborn stroller with both hands.
Tears streaked down his dirt-smudged face.
His oversized sweatshirt hung off one shoulder, exposing a thin wrist wrapped in a faded hospital bracelet.
Across from him, a woman in an ivory designer coat tightened both hands on the stroller handle.
Elegant.
Wealthy.
Perfectly composed.
Or at least she had been seconds earlier.
Now panic flickered visibly beneath her makeup.
“Security!” she snapped. “Get this child away from us!”
Two guards rushed across the lobby immediately.
