Television has lost one of its most recognizable and comforting figures.
Anne Schedeen, who is best remembered for her portrayal of Kate Tanner on the cherished NBC sitcom ALF, has sadly passed away at the age of 77.
“Burning hatred for Trump..”
For countless viewers, Schedeen was the heart and soul of the Tanner family. As the patient, grounded, and endlessly understanding Kate Tanner, she infused warmth and authenticity into one of television’s most unique households — a suburban family cohabiting with a wisecracking alien from Melmac.
Her performance made the extraordinary feel relatable and contributed significantly to ALF’s lasting charm.
Anne’s family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement on Facebook.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce Annie has passed peacefully,” the family wrote. “She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, sharp humor, joy in her family, love for little dogs, intense dislike for Trump, enthusiasm for second-hand thrifting, and a passion for storytelling. We are heartbroken without her. We loved her dearly, as did everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
Her longtime agent, Tom Markley, fondly recalled her, stating:
“Annie was everything to her family and this agency.”
Anne Schedeen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Christopher Barrett, her daughter Taylor Barrett, daughter-in-law Hilary Flynn, siblings Sarabeth Schedeen and Roland “Tony” Schedeen, extended family, and her cherished rescue dogs, Roo and Red.
In place of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, a cause she held dear.
For those who grew up watching ALF, Anne Schedeen will forever be remembered as the soothing presence amidst the chaos, the nurturing mother who held the Tanner family together, and the actress whose kindness made every scene feel like home.
