At 5:03 a.m. on a freezing, stormy morning, Elena received a call that her 24-year-old pregnant daughter, Brooke, had been found badly injured at a deserted bus stop. When Elena arrived, Brooke was barely conscious, covered in bruises and blood, and protecting her five-month-old pregnancy. Before losing consciousness, Brooke revealed that her husband, Trevor, and his mother, Victoria, had attacked her with a golf club after blaming her for failing to properly polish silverware. They reportedly told her that the baby was a mistake before leaving her to die.
At the hospital, doctors discovered that Brooke had suffered severe head trauma and a ruptured spleen. She was placed in a coma, and the doctor warned Elena that both Brooke and the baby might not survive. Devastated and furious, Elena went to the wealthy Vance family mansion carrying gasoline and a match, intending to destroy the people responsible.
Just before she acted, however, the hospital called. Brooke had unexpectedly regained consciousness and was asking for her mother. Doctors confirmed that the baby’s heartbeat was strong. Brooke then revealed that Trevor had believed she was dead and that he and Victoria might be destroying evidence from the mansion.
Elena decided to use that belief against them. She revealed that she had previously spent twelve years working in federal counter-intelligence. With her experience and connections, she arranged for Brooke to remain hidden in the hospital while everyone was led to believe she had died.
The following morning, Elena arrived at the Vance mansion with federal agents and police. She confronted Trevor and Victoria and played Brooke’s recorded testimony. Investigators also recovered deleted security footage showing the attack. Phone records further showed Trevor attempting to discover whether a dead pregnant woman had been taken to the morgue.
Then Brooke entered the mansion alive, appearing in a wheelchair and revealing that her baby had survived. Trevor and Victoria were arrested, while their fortune and property were seized to create a trust for Brooke and her child.
Six months later, Brooke was living peacefully with Elena on a farmhouse. She had recovered, and her healthy baby girl was safely in her arms. Trevor and Victoria had each received twenty-five-year prison sentences. After everything they had endured, Brooke and her mother finally had the peaceful life they deserved.
