Anyone know what this is called?

My grandparents called the strange marble egg an “egg-weight,” but people online suggested it was actually a darning egg, an old tool for repairing holes in socks.I learned that these smooth egg-shaped tools were placed inside socks to stretch the fabric while stitching, and they came in wood, glass, porcelain, and marble.

Although they seem like antiques today, darning eggs are still used by people who prefer repairing clothes instead of throwing them away.So that mysterious object in an old family drawer may not be anything strange at all—it could simply be a clever reminder of how people once made things last.
