I’ve eaten this meal so many times, but NEVER this delicious.

This classic comfort food dish is a perfect way to warm up on a chilly day. The creamy mashed potatoes are the ideal base for the rich and savory ground beef gravy. This hearty, customizable meal is quick to prepare and deeply satisfying.

Ingredients:

Mashed Potatoes:
Ingredient Quantity
Potatoes 2 lb, quartered and peeled
Milk 1 1/2 cups
Butter 1/4 cup
Salt and pepper To taste

Ground Beef and Gravy:

Ingredient Quantity
Ground beef 1 lb
Onion 1 medium, chopped
Garlic 2 cloves, minced
All-purpose flour 2 tbsp
Beef broth 1/4 cup
Curry powder 1/2 tsp (optional)
Salt and pepper To taste
Frozen carrots and peas 1 cup (optional)

How To Make Mashed Potatoes with Ground Beef Gravy:

  1. Step 1: Prepare Mashed Potatoes: Place the quartered and peeled potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain the potatoes thoroughly. Mash the potatoes with the milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Step 2: Cook Ground Beef and Aromatics: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef and cook until the onion is softened and translucent.
  3. Step 3: Make the Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir for about one minute to cook out the raw flour taste. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly, and continue to cook until the gravy has thickened. Season the gravy generously with salt, pepper, and curry powder (if desired).
  4. Step 4: Add Vegetables (Optional): If using, stir in the frozen carrots and peas. Cook the gravy until the vegetables are heated through.
  5. Step 5: Serve: Spoon the mashed potatoes onto individual plates. Top generously with the ground beef and gravy. Enjoy!
