Tips for using air conditioners comfortably without worrying about electricity costs

During summer, air conditioners can make electricity bills soar, sometimes increasing costs by 50% or even two to three times. Fortunately, a few simple habits can help families stay comfortable without spending as much on cooling.

First, set the temperature wisely. Running an air conditioner at an extremely low setting forces it to work harder and consume more energy. A comfortable setting around 23–25°C during the day and 25–28°C at night can help balance comfort and efficiency. Avoid repeatedly switching the unit off and on; maintaining a steady temperature is often more practical.

Next, choose the appropriate operating mode. Cool mode is generally best during very hot weather because it lowers the room temperature. Dry mode mainly removes humidity and may not provide sufficient cooling when outdoor temperatures are extremely high.

Setting the fan to automatic mode can also help distribute cool air throughout the room. This allows the unit to circulate air without requiring constant manual adjustments.

Keeping doors and windows closed is another important step. Warm outdoor air entering the room makes the air conditioner work harder. Closing curtains or blinds during sunny hours can also reduce heat entering through windows and help the room stay cooler.

Using a ceiling or standing fan alongside the air conditioner may improve comfort. The fan circulates cool air, helping people feel cooler without lowering the thermostat as much. Because fans generally use less electricity than air conditioners, this combination can be an efficient option.

Regular maintenance is equally important. Dusty filters restrict airflow and can reduce cooling efficiency, increasing electricity consumption. Cleaning the filters approximately every two weeks during frequent use can help the unit operate effectively.

Finally, arrange professional servicing periodically to keep the system clean and functioning properly. Depending on usage, servicing every four to six months may be appropriate.

By adjusting temperatures, improving airflow, keeping heat outside, and maintaining the equipment, households can enjoy a cooler home while managing electricity costs throughout the summer.
