Search Intensifies for Nancy Guthrie as Authorities Continue Multi-Agency Investigation

The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has moved into its second week, with law enforcement agencies actively pursuing several leads. Nancy was last known to be at her Tucson, Arizona, home on the evening of January 31 after returning from dinner with family. Concern escalated when she missed a regular church service the next morning and could not be reached, prompting relatives to quickly notify authorities given her age and reported health considerations.

Since the initial report, investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have worked together to reconstruct a timeline and evaluate incoming information. Officials confirmed that alleged ransom-related messages were sent to several media outlets, though they have not verified their authenticity. To protect the integrity of the investigation, authorities have limited public details about the communications while the case remains active.

Over the weekend, Savannah appeared in a public video with her siblings, Annie and Camron, delivering an emotional appeal for their mother’s safe return. Shortly afterward, investigators were observed conducting a search at a residence belonging to Annie and her husband, located a short distance from Nancy’s home. The search reportedly lasted more than two hours, but officials have not specified whether it was carried out with consent or under a warrant, nor have they commented on any items that may have been collected.

Experts note that examining multiple locations is common practice in missing-person investigations, particularly when new tips surface or unusual claims emerge. Authorities have also revisited Nancy’s residence for additional examinations, including outdoor areas, as part of their evidence-gathering process. At this time, no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly identified.
