Gooey Butter Cake

Some desserts feel timeless—like they’ve been passed around in handwritten recipe cards, carried to potlucks, and loved at every birthday, holiday, or lazy Sunday gathering. Gooey Butter Cake is one of those classics. It doesn’t need layers or piped frosting—it’s just one pan of buttery, creamy magic that wins hearts every time.Made with everyday ingredients and baked into a golden, crackly-topped bar, it’s soft in the center, sweet (but not over-the-top), and unapologetically nostalgic. That lush top layer of cream cheese and sugar is where the name gets its charm—and once you taste it, you’ll understand why it keeps showing up wherever smiles are needed.
