Expert Claims Nancy Guthrie Suspect Made a Critical ‘Rookie’ Error During Kidnapping

New Surveillance Footage and Questioning Mark Key Developments in Nancy Guthrie Case

Significant developments have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie.

Over the past 24 hours, authorities have released previously unseen surveillance footage and confirmed that a man was briefly detained for questioning before being released without charges. Investigators say both developments are part of continued efforts to clarify what happened in the early hours of February 1.

The case, now entering its eleventh day, remains one of the most closely followed missing-person investigations in the country. Timeline of the Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, 2026, after returning to her home near Tucson following a family dinner.

When she failed to appear at a scheduled church livestream the next morning, relatives became concerned and later reported her missing.

Investigators have described her as a vulnerable adult due to limited mobility and ongoing medical needs, including a pacemaker and daily medication. FBI Releases New Surveillance Footage

On February 10, authorities released images and short video clips from a smart doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home.

The footage shows an individual wearing a mask, gloves, and a backpack on her porch in the early morning hours of February 1. The person appears to handle a firearm and tamper with the camera before it stopped recording.

Officials said the footage was recovered through cooperation with private technology partners after investigators worked to reconstruct data that was not initially accessible.

The FBI stated that the images represent the first major visual lead in the case and could help generate new tips from the public.

A $50,000 reward remains in place for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest of those responsible.
