Democratic lawmakers made a bold statement by wearing pink to Donald Trump’s first joint session of Congress on March 4. The Democratic Women’s Caucus, composed of female House representatives, chose pink as a symbol of protest against Trump’s policies impacting women and families. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández, chair of the caucus, explained that pink represents “power and protest,” emphasizing their opposition to Trump’s agenda. The group aimed to highlight issues such as rising living costs, threats to healthcare, and safety concerns for women. Fernández criticized Trump’s speech, calling his policies a “nightmare” for American women. The protest also saw lawmaker Al Green being escorted out after interrupting Trump to oppose cuts to Medicaid. The pink attire served as a visual reminder of the caucus’s commitment to fighting for women’s rights and challenging policies they believe harm families across the nation.
