Hollywood has lost a familiar face just one day before a milestone birthday. Mary Louise Weller, remembered as Mandy Pepperidge in Animal House, reportedly died at 79, leaving loved ones facing a painful goodbye. As her family asks for privacy, the story of her life reaches beyond one unforgettable comedy role to reveal a quieter but equally meaningful legacy.
According to Extra, Mary Louise Weller died on October 1 following a brief illness, with an announcement shared through her Facebook account. No specific cause of death was disclosed. Born in Brooklyn on October 2, 1946, she began her screen career in the 1972 comedy Hail before appearing in Serpico and television favorites including Starsky and Hutch, Baretta, and Kojak. Her turn in the 1978 comedy Animal House brought her lasting recognition alongside John Belushi and Tim Matheson.
Weller’s work also included The Bell Jar and Bloodtide, with her final screen appearance coming in 1983 on Quincy, M.E. Away from Hollywood, she embraced horses, became an accomplished equestrian, and devoted time to writing. She is survived by her longtime partner, Michael Roy Curtis, and her cousin, author Sheila Weller. Those closest to her knew her as “ML”—a personal remembrance beyond the role that made her familiar to generations of moviegoers.
