Am I Wrong for Teaching My Father-in-Law a Lesson after He Tried to Skip Out on the Bill?

When Carmen’s father-in-law, Jerry, invited her and Leo to dinner, they were excited to spend time with him. Known for his frugality, Jerry’s invitation seemed unusually generous. However, he handed the bill to Leo, claiming he lost his wallet. The next day, Carmen saw a photo revealing Jerry’s wallet in his back pocket, realizing he had tricked them.

The following weekend, Carmen and Leo invited Jerry to an even fancier restaurant. After dinner, they pretended to forget their wallets, putting Jerry in the same position he had put them in. Leo said, “I must have left my wallet at home! Carmen, please tell me that you have yours.”

Jerry reluctantly paid the bill, clearly uncomfortable. As they left, Leo suggested getting ice cream. At the ice cream parlor, Leo pulled out his wallet to pay, surprising Jerry. Carmen said, “What you did last weekend wasn’t good, Jerry. I saw your wallet in the photos. You lied.”

Jerry apologized, promising not to repeat the deception. The couple enjoyed their ice cream, knowing Jerry had learned his lesson. “We love spending time together as a family,” Carmen added.
