Mara Dalton was waiting at JFK Airport for a routine flight to London and blending in perfectly with the other travelers. She settled into seat 8A while wearing a plain green sweater and tried to forget her past as a military combat pilot who flew F 16 fighter jets. As she drifted to sleep the captain suddenly made an urgent announcement asking if any combat trained pilots were on board the aircraft. Passengers looked around in total confusion while Mara felt a familiar tension tighten in her chest. A flight attendant anxiously approached her row to repeat the urgent request for a military pilot.
Walking toward the front of Flight 417 Mara noticed the exhausted captain and first officer struggling inside the tense cockpit. The captain explained that their autopilot systems had completely failed twenty minutes ago and they were flying manually while another aircraft trailed them aggressively. Mara recognized the aggressive military interception pattern and ordered the crew to activate the external cameras to get visual confirmation of the threat.
While Mara planned a defensive strategy a flight attendant named Julia reported that two suspicious passengers in business class were preparing to attack. Chaos erupted in the main cabin when one suspect stood up with a weapon to announce the plane was changing course. Fortunately a brave businessman tackled the armed man to the floor while a retired police officer restrained the second suspect.
Two military interceptor jets quickly appeared on the horizon to escort the commercial flight and caused Victor to immediately retreat into the clouds. After landing safely in London the grateful passengers surrounded Mara to thank her for saving three hundred lives. The terrifying experience reminded Mara of her true calling and she officially returned to military service six months later to protect civilian aircraft from dangerous threats.
