Woman harshly criticized online after adopting husband’s ex-wife’s baby

A Miracle Baby: The Werts Family’s Journey to Adoption
A Blended Family Begins
Five years ago, Christie and Wesley Werts blended their lives and families when they tied the knot. Christie’s daughter, Megan, joined Wesley’s children, Austin and Dakota, creating a beautiful family.

A Unique Turn in Their Love Story
Their love story took a unique turn with the adoption of a miracle baby, Levi. The journey to Levi’s adoption was a testament to their resilience. After waiting 16 months for the process to finalize, the Werts family eagerly anticipated bringing their baby boy home.

A Touching Twist
Levi’s adoption has a touching twist that seems like a dream come true for Christie. Born in Texas in August 2021, Levi’s biological mother, Wesley’s former partner, struggled with drug use during pregnancy. Tragically, she passed away four days after Levi’s premature birth at 33 weeks, due to addiction and coronavirus complications.

Discovering Levi
Wesley learned about Levi when his ex-wife’s sister informed him of her passing. Christie, who had experienced foster homes herself, was determined to provide Levi with a stable and loving home. Remarkably, before learning about Levi, Christie had recurring dreams about a blue-eyed blond baby. This dream influenced her decision to adopt Levi when she discovered his existence.

Meeting Levi
The Werts family flew from Ohio to Texas to meet Levi through Child Protection Services. Their first meeting was just like Christie’s dream. “When I walked in and saw this blond-haired, blue-eyed baby, I immediately fell in love. It was a very surreal feeling. This was my son,” she said.

Overcoming Obstacles
The adoption process was challenging. The Werts family sold their house in Ohio and moved to Texas for court proceedings, enduring a legal process that involved the termination of Levi’s biological father’s parental rights. After 16 months of inspections, interviews, and court appearances, Levi’s adoption was finalized, and they brought him home.

Facing Criticism
Despite the heartwarming nature of their story, Christie faced criticism online for sharing it. Some questioned the decision to share such a personal story publicly. “Some things you don’t share on the media, and this is one of them,” said one user. However, many others were happy for the couple and wished the new family a happy life.
