Why shouldn’t you set the air conditioner to 26°C at night?

Why 26°C at Night Isn’t Ideal
Setting your air conditioner to 26°C may seem like a balanced choice during hot summer nights, but it can lead to discomfort and health issues. As your body naturally cools down during deep sleep, a room set at 26°C can feel too cold in the early hours, possibly leading to chills, disrupted sleep, or even a cold.

Day vs. Night Cooling Needs
While 26°C is generally fine during the day—especially if outdoor temperatures peak around 34°C—nighttime comfort needs are different. Because your metabolism slows as you sleep, a cooler room can become uncomfortable later in the night. Experts caution against using daytime settings during sleep.

Ideal Sleeping Temperature
Air conditioning technicians recommend setting your AC to 28°C at night. This temperature is warm enough to prevent late-night chills but still cool enough for restful sleep. It also consumes less energy, making it both healthier and more economical.

Using Sleep Mode Smartly
If 28°C feels too warm at bedtime, you can set your AC to 26°C and activate Sleep Mode. This mode gradually increases the temperature over time, usually by 1°C per hour, reaching 28°C by early morning. It helps maintain comfort while avoiding excessive cooling.

If 26°C Doesn’t Feel Cool Enough
Sometimes, 26°C may not feel cool due to AC issues. Common problems include an undersized unitdirty filters, or blocked vents. These reduce airflow and cooling performance. Addressing these can restore proper function.

When to Call a Technician
If basic maintenance doesn’t solve the issue, the problem could be low refrigerant or a faulty compressor. In such cases, professional service is necessary. Regular maintenance ensures your AC performs efficiently and keeps your room comfortable at any temperature.
