Trump Rips Ilhan Omar Over Remarks About Charlie Kirk

President Donald Trump on Thursday criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., attacking her birth country and questioning her citizenship over remarks she has made about the character of conservative youth activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated a week ago.

“Ilhan Omar’s Country of Somalia is plagued by a lack of central Government control, persistent Poverty, Hunger, Resurgent Terrorism, Piracy, decades of Civil War, Corruption, and pervasive Violence,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“70% of the population lives in extreme Poverty, and widespread Food Insecurity. Somalia is consistently ranked among the World’s Most Corrupt Countries, including Bribery, Embezzlement, and a Dysfunctional Government. All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America!” Trump continued.

He added: “P.S. Wasn’t she the one that married her brother in order to gain Citizenship??? What SCUM we have in our Country, telling us what to do, and how to do it. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The president’s remarks come as Rep. Ilhan Omar faced an unsuccessful censure effort led by Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., over disputed comments related to the assassination of Kirk. The measure failed by one vote – 214-213 – after four Republicans voted with all Democrats to table it.

Omar reacted on X to Mace’s censure move on Tuesday, saying, “Fun fact: Nancy Mace is trying to censure me over comments I never said. Her res does not contain a single quote from me because she couldn’t find any. Unlike her, I have routinely condemned political violence, no matter the political ideology.”

But she has disparaged Kirk repeatedly since his assassination, doubling down on previous remarks from last week at an event this week.

“Ilhan Omar didn’t just make reprehensible comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. She shared a disgusting video claiming Charlie had it coming to him. People are losing their jobs for far less,” Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) said.

Four Republicans — Reps. Mike Flood of Nebraska, Tom McClintock of California, Jeff Hurd of Colorado, and Cory Mills of Florida – voted against censuring Omar.

Mace introduced the resolution in response to Omar’s remarks in an interview with the far-left outlet Zeteo, where she criticized Kirk’s past commentary as well as GOP reactions to his killing.

She told the outlet, days after Kirk’s assassination, that he had previously “downplayed slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist.”

“There are a lot of people out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,” the “Squad” member said. “There is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

Kirk’s technique, practiced on every college campus he visited, was literally to engage audience members who disagreed with his points of view.

In a statement to Explain America’s Carmine Sabia, Mace ripped Omar over her remarks. “If you’re Somalia first, you’re not America first, and a one-way ticket to Somalia is the nicest thing we could do,” she said.

Earlier, in a response to Omar, Mace posted on the X platform: “If you celebrate murder, maybe Somalia can take you back.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Mace said Omar mocked the assassination of Kirk, who was a husband and father of two.

“Now she’s lashing out because we called her out. What’s not ‘well’ is celebrating political violence,” Mace said. “What’s not ‘smart’ is defending it. Omar should be ashamed of herself.”
