Trump Promises $2000 Checks

Trump Proposes $2,000 Checks Funded by Tariffs

Former President Donald Trump suggested sending $1,000 to $2,000 checks to Americans using revenue from tariffs,

calling it a “dividend to the people of America” to help families struggling with high costs.

Tariff Revenue

Tariffs started in April 2025 and have generated over $214 billion this year. Trump said:

“They are just starting to kick in. Ultimately, your tariffs are going to be over a trillion dollars a year,”

with most funds aimed at reducing the $37 trillion national debt.

Legislative Challenges

The plan requires Congressional approval. Missouri Senator Josh Hawley proposed the American Worker Rebate Act,

which would send at least $600 per adult and child,

totaling $2,400 for a family of four, with reduced payments for higher earners.

Legal Uncertainty

Courts are reviewing the tariffs’ legality. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that if ruled unlawful,

the government might return $750 billion to $1 trillion.

The fate of the payments depends on Congress and upcoming Supreme Court rulings.
