Trump cancelled $80M government gives New York City to provide shelter in hotels for migrants

Donald Trump continues to make changes in his return to office and it is the turn of New York City to have their share.

It has been reported that the Donald Trump administration has decided to cancel an $80 million deal that is being paid to New York City.
The federal government do pay New York City an amount of $80 millon to provide shelter in hotels for migrants.
The said funds were administered by FEMA which happens to be a an agency under of the Department of Homeland Security.
According to a 2024 report conducted by the Lander’s office, they found out New York City had paid an average rate of $156 a night for hotel rooms.
This hotel rooms are reportedly booked through an existing agreement with the Hotel Association of New York City.
However, that agreement is begun to fade the very moment Donald Trump returned to office.

He held an emergency news conference Wednesday afternoon after he said his office found the money was missing from the city’s accounts.

According to Lander, FEMA awarded the funds to the city to house asylum seekers.

“These are folks who, for the most part, registered with the federal government when they crossed, in many cases got sent here by the federal government. New York City stepped up to provide shelter and services and pay for that,” Lander said.

It comes after Elon Musk, head of the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claimed the money was being wasted on luxury hotels to house migrants.
