A young couple spent months preparing for their first child by reading books and safety proofing every corner of their apartment. Their baby boy was born healthy and calm, sleeping well and rarely causing any trouble for the first few months. This peaceful routine vanished instantly one night when the infant began to whine and eventually escalated into a continuous scream. The parents tried every trick they knew, from feeding and changing to rocking him through the night, but his face remained flushed and his body tense with pain. Nothing they did seemed to soothe the child or stop the labored breathing that accompanied his frantic cries. Desperate for answers, the exhausted parents took their son to an emergency clinic as evening approached. The medical staff performed a routine examination and checked his vital signs before concluding that the infant was simply suffering from common colic. They suggested basic massages and eye drops before sending the family back home to wait out the phase. Trusting the professional opinion, the parents spent the next two days walking miles around their apartment while carrying their crying son. Fatigue and anxiety mounted as the child barely slept and the relentless screaming continued without any sign of improvement or relief from the prescribed treatments. On the third night of the ordeal, the father took over the duty of carrying the child so his wife could finally get some rest. While pacing the rooms, he noticed that the baby was moving one leg normally while keeping the other stiff and bent. He decided to unbutton the infant’s clothing for a closer look and eventually removed the child’s socks to investigate further. He was shocked to find that one foot was swollen, hot to the touch, and dark red compared to the other. A thin strand of long hair had wrapped tightly around the tiny toes, cutting off the blood flow and causing the skin to swell over the constriction.
