I decided to transform the military uniform of my late father into my prom dress to keep a piece of him close. After he passed away my life shifted dramatically under the strict control of my stepmother Camila and my stepsisters Lia and Jen. They treated me like a burden and demanded that I handle all the household chores while they obsessed over their own glamorous prom preparations. I worked on my sewing project quietly in my room every night because I knew they would find a way to ruin it if they discovered my secret. The thick olive fabric was difficult to stitch but it grounded me and gave me a sense of purpose. The sewing process was exhausting but I refused to give up on creating something that truly belonged to me. When prom night finally arrived I finished all my assigned chores and went upstairs to put on the finished gown. I carefully pinned the military insignia of my father at my waist and walked downstairs feeling a deep sense of strength. Camila and my stepsisters immediately stared and laughed at my creation while calling it a pile of useless scraps. Their cruel insults stung deeply but I stood my ground because I knew exactly why I was wearing this special garment.
