Never place your bed like this: myth or reality according to Feng Shui?

Why You Shouldn’t Sleep with Your Feet Toward the Door

In Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of arranging spaces for harmony and balance, sleeping with your feet directly toward the door is considered bad luck. This position, often called the “coffin position,” mirrors how the deceased are carried out of a room — feet first.

Practitioners believe this alignment allows vital life energy, or Chi, to escape while you rest. The result, according to tradition, can be poor sleep quality, increased stress, and even setbacks in health, finances, or relationships.

To avoid these negative effects, Feng Shui experts recommend placing your bed so the headboard rests against a solid wall, creating stability and support while you sleep.

It’s also advised to keep your bed away from direct alignment with doors or windows. This positioning is thought to help Chi circulate gently around you rather than rushing past or away.

If rearranging your bed isn’t possible, there are remedies. You can place a folding screen, curtain, or tall plant between the bed and the door to act as a barrier, slowing the energy flow.

Another tip is to keep the space under your bed clear of clutter. In Feng Shui, this allows Chi to move freely, supporting rest and renewal through the night.

While these ideas aren’t backed by scientific research, many people say they sleep more soundly and wake feeling more refreshed after following them. The effect may be psychological, but a calmer mind often leads to deeper rest.

At the very least, creating a thoughtful, balanced bedroom layout can make your space feel safer and more peaceful — and that’s something worth trying.
