I Proposed to My Girlfriend, Now She Wants to Be a Stay-at-Home Fiancée – Am I Marrying a Gold Digger?

A young couple discovered their pay disparity at work before getting engaged, leading to online speculation about the fiancée’s intentions. The man, a researcher, explained on Reddit that he met his fiancée, who worked in marketing, at their company two and a half years ago. Despite their love, he was shocked to learn he earned 15 times her salary.

After moving in together, they split expenses proportionately. Upon their engagement, she requested an expensive $15,000 ring, which made him uncomfortable. She later announced plans to quit her job to focus on wedding planning, which he opposed, fearing it was too early in her career. “I laughed, told her that wasn’t a thing,” he said.

The fiancée argued she was tired of her demanding job and wanted to be a stay-at-home fiancée. After a heated discussion, she promised to find a job after their wedding and consider further education. Despite his discomfort, he began to understand her burnout and desire for a balanced life.

Reddit users largely criticized the fiancée, calling her a “gold-digger” and advising the man to get a prenup. One user warned, “She’s never going back to work lol.” Others suggested he be cautious and prepare for potential financial pitfalls.
