Her Post-Surgery Struggle Was Real—But Her Glow-Up Is Even More Powerful!

For years, Katie Wolferding struggled with an uneven chin and an underbite that caused her both physical pain and emotional distress. Teased for her appearance, she often avoided photos and turned her face away from cameras. After much thought, Katie made the courageous decision to undergo double jaw surgery in June 2018—a major step toward rebuilding her confidence.

Recovery was far from easy. She had to relearn how to talk and eat, while also dealing with complications such as severe nasal congestion that left her feeling like she couldn’t breathe. With creativity and determination, she used nasal strips, a condiment bottle with a syringe to eat, and relied on chapstick and dry mouth spray for relief.

While her body healed, the emotional recovery was more challenging. Years of bullying and insecurity had taken a toll, and adjusting to her new appearance—especially changes to her nose—required time and self-acceptance.

Faith and support from her family and friends helped her through the toughest moments. A year after surgery, in June 2019, Katie celebrated being able to smile freely for the first time without hesitation—a milestone that once seemed impossible.
