On November 4, 2025, Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, was elected mayor, defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa in a race that redefined city politics. With 50.4% of the vote, Mamdani became New York’s first Muslim, first South Asian, and youngest mayor in over a century.
