Julia Roberts shed her signature glamour for a raw, emotional role in August: Osage County, filming in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Dressed in plain jeans and layered tops, her makeup-free look matched the intensity of her character, Barbara Weston—a woman grappling with family turmoil after her father goes missing.
In one gripping scene, Roberts and co-star Ewan McGregor, playing Bill Fordham, hold hands as they approach a dock to identify a body. Julia breaks down in his arms, delivering a powerful, tear-filled performance.
But between takes, the mood lightened. Roberts was spotted laughing with co-star Julianne Nicholson, both dressed down for their roles. Nicholson, like Roberts, ditched the glam in favor of simple outfits and pulled-back hair.
The star-studded cast also includes Meryl Streep, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Juliette Lewis, who stepped in after Andrea Riseborough exited the film. Abigail Breslin won the role of Jean Fordham, beating out Chloë Moretz.
Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hilarious—it’s all part of the act.
