Boy, 14, Sent Text to Mom Before Dying in a Mass Shooting at Apalachee High School

Reports have revealed that a 14-year-old boy sent a text to his mom before he was killed in the Apalachee High School mass shooting in Winder, Georgia. His sister, Alanna Wallace, has also spoken out about the tragedy.

The victim, Mason Schermerhorn, was one of four killed during the incident. Ronald Clark, a youth minister and chaplain, described trying to assist in locating Schermerhorn, who had texted his mom from a restroom. Clark, who arrived at the scene after learning of the shooting from his wife, quickly joined the police at the command post.

Clark was involved in the aftermath, comforting shocked students and assisting with the investigation. Despite his efforts, Schermerhorn was confirmed dead, a situation Clark found particularly painful given his recent conversations with Schermerhorn’s mom about her children.

The boy’s texts to his mother revealed the terror he felt during the shooting. Wallace shared fond memories of her brother, highlighting his positive nature and enthusiasm for life. She described him as loving and protective, a sentiment echoed by Clark. Our deepest condolences go out to Schermerhorn’s family and all affected by this devastating event.
