Black Couple Adopts Three White Kids, Saying ‘Families Don’t Have to Match’

After several failed attempts to get pregnant, a married couple lost hope, thinking they were destined to be uncle and aunt. But an unexpected call changed their lives.

Sadie and Jarvis Sampson missed a family trip to Mexico due to work fatigue. While dropping off a life jacket for her sister, Sadie received a message from her best friend asking if they would consider fostering or adopting a child. Initially hesitant due to potential costs, Sadie listened as her friend explained.

The Sampsons had been trying to conceive since their wedding in 2018, using various methods but with no success. After multiple negative pregnancy tests and medical consultations, they eventually gave up. Then, Sadie’s friend mentioned a couple looking for foster parents for their son. A week later, a caseworker asked if they would foster him for six to twelve months while the birth mother received treatment. Despite fears of attachment, they agreed.

Soon, the birth mother requested the Sampsons adopt the child. They were stunned, going from no kids to becoming parents overnight. After handling the paperwork, Sadie and Jarvis met their son, Ezra Lee, who was born prematurely. They juggled work and hospital visits until they could finally take him home. Ezra’s adoption was finalized in October 2020.

In 2021, the Sampsons also became parents to twin girls, Journee and Destinee, through embryo donation. Embracing their family motto, “Families don’t have to match,” the black couple proudly parents three white children. Sadie and Jarvis believe their family is built on the strongest foundation: love.
