The Baby Monitor Recorded What My Husband Said Before He Opened the Door

A new mother finds herself trapped in a bathroom with her newborn baby after her husband violently attacks her. While she is sitting in the bathroom, her husband grabs her by the hair, pulls her to the floor, and injures her. At the same time, his mother takes the crying baby. The woman manages to free herself, grab her son, and lock herself inside the bathroom.

She calls emergency services and remains on the phone with a dispatcher. Then the baby monitor beside her begins playing a recording from earlier. What she hears completely changes her understanding of what happened. Her mother-in-law says that the woman is exhausted and suggests that this is exactly what they need. Her husband responds that if his wife tries to leave with the baby, he will stop her at the front door.

The recording reveals that the violence was not simply a sudden argument or moment of anger. The two had apparently discussed the situation beforehand and planned to use the woman’s exhaustion against her. They expected her to become frightened, overwhelmed, and eventually give them the baby.

Outside the bathroom, her husband repeatedly asks her to open the door and give the baby to his mother. He speaks calmly, trying to make himself sound reasonable. However, the baby monitor continues to expose what he and his mother had said earlier. Another recording reveals that he believed taking the baby away from her would make her easier to control.

The mother-in-law also tries to manipulate the situation, telling the woman that she is frightening the baby. The woman refuses to give in and keeps her son against her chest while staying connected to the emergency dispatcher.

Then the situation becomes even more frightening. The mother-in-law gives her son a key, allowing him to challenge the locked bathroom door. The husband begins unlocking it and slowly pushes the door open.

The woman realizes that she cannot rely on his calm voice or promises that everything will be fine. He has already physically attacked her, and the recording has revealed what he and his mother intended to do.

As his hand reaches through the opening toward the lock, she keeps her baby close, keeps the emergency call open, and refuses to surrender him. The story ends at this tense moment, with the baby monitor still recording the evidence of their earlier plan.
