13 Warning Signs of High Blood Sugar

High blood sugar levels, a key indicator of Type 2 diabetes, often develop quietly with symptoms that are easy to miss. In fact, 1 in 3 people with diabetes don’t even know they have it. Ignoring these early signs can lead to dangerous complications like heart disease, nerve damage, and vision problems.

13 Warning Signs

1.Frequent urination: Needing to urinate often, especially during the night, can happen when the kidneys work to remove excess glucose from the blood.
2.Excessive thirst: Frequent urination can cause fluid loss, leading to constant thirst and a strong need to drink.
3.Increased hunger: When glucose cannot enter cells properly, the body may signal that it needs more food, resulting in persistent hunger.
4.Dry mouth: Reduced moisture in the mouth can occur and may contribute to dental and gum problems.
5.Unexplained weight changes: High blood sugar may be accompanied by unexpected weight loss, while a diet high in sugary foods can contribute to weight gain.
6.Fatigue: When cells cannot use glucose efficiently, a person may feel unusually tired, weak, or lacking in energy.
7.Vision problems: Elevated blood sugar can affect the eyes and cause temporary blurry or distorted vision. Long-term uncontrolled blood sugar can contribute to serious eye complications.
8.Headaches: Headaches may occur alongside elevated blood glucose and can become more noticeable as blood sugar problems worsen.
9.Slow-healing cuts and infections: High blood sugar can interfere with circulation and healing, making cuts, bruises, and infections take longer to recover.
10.Yeast infections: Higher glucose levels can create conditions that make certain fungal infections, including yeast infections, more common.
11.Numbness or tingling: Persistent high blood sugar can damage nerves, causing tingling, burning, pain, or numbness, particularly in the hands and feet.
12.Skin changes: Dark, velvety patches of skin, particularly around the neck, armpits, or groin, may be associated with insulin resistance. Itching and other skin changes can also occur.
13.Sexual dysfunction: Diabetes-related blood-vessel and nerve problems can contribute to sexual difficulties, including vaginal dryness or erectile problems.
