With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of this groundbreaking woman

Daphne Selfe, widely known as the world’s oldest professional model, has died at 97. Her passing was confirmed on March 21, 2026, with her family sharing that she died peacefully, ending a life that remained active and inspiring until the very end. They described her final moments with grace: **“She rose peacefully and purposely towards the light, as only the sensational model in her knew how, in the sunshine of a beautiful spring equinox afternoon.”**

Her last public appearance reflected the life she loved. **“Her final working day was last June when she graced the Vogue luncheon at Royal Ascot Ladies Day. What a way to bow out, fashion, people, and horses… her main loves.”** Her family closed their tribute with: **“She will continue to inspire, always and forever.”**

Born in London in 1928, her modeling career began at 21 but paused after marriage as she focused on family life. Years later, after personal loss, she returned to modeling in her 70s—marking the most defining chapter of her career. She gained recognition at major events like London Fashion Week and became celebrated for her natural elegance. Reflecting on this period, she said: **“I had more modeling success since I was 70 than I ever did when I was 20.”**

Her authenticity became her signature. **“I became successful when I embraced my age and went gray… It made me more striking.”** Off the runway, she valued simple joys and connection, once sharing: **“I’m a great one for socializing… even if it’s only for a coffee.”**

Recognized by Guinness World Records and awarded the British Empire Medal, she also founded the Daphne Selfe Academy to support aspiring models. Even in her 90s, she remained active and determined, once telling Prince William she had no plans to retire.
