A 21-year-old woman, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, died during a bridge jumping activity at Ponte do Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge) in Limeira, São Paulo state, Brazil. What began as an adventure outing ended in a fatal accident that is now under investigation.

Hours before the tragedy, she shared cheerful posts on social media from the site, including photos with event staff and her identification bracelets. One caption she wrote jokingly—“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”—has since gone viral due to the circumstances of her death.

Reports indicate she was participating in a commercial adventure activity run by a private company. Videos circulating online allegedly show her being guided toward the edge of the bridge by staff in preparation for the jump.

Witnesses and early reports suggest a serious safety failure may have occurred, with claims that her safety rope was not properly attached to her harness before she was released.

Moments after the jump, panic broke out at the scene. Witnesses reportedly shouted warnings about the missing rope as she fell approximately 40 meters (131 feet) to the ground.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived quickly but were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the incident. Six individuals connected to the operation have reportedly been detained as investigators examine possible negligence and violations of safety procedures.

Local officials, including the mayor of Limeira, have raised concerns about oversight and safety standards at the site, while investigators continue working to determine exactly what went wrong and who was responsible.
