This dish is a homemade take on the well-known steakhouse favorite, featuring an ultra-smooth sweet potato filling topped with its classic crunchy, buttery pecan streusel.

Ruth’s Chris–Style Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients

Mashed sweet potatoes 4 cups
Softened butter 1/2 cup
White sugar 1 cup
Eggs 2
Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
Milk 1/2 cup
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Brown sugar 1 cup
All-purpose flour 1/2 cup
Chopped pecans 1/2 cup
Melted butter 2 tablespoons
Instructions

Step 1: Make the Sweet Potato Mixture
Peel and boil the sweet potatoes until tender enough to pierce easily with a fork. Drain well and mash until smooth. In a large mixing bowl, blend the mashed sweet potatoes with the softened butter, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla, milk, and salt until creamy and fully combined.

Step 2: Transfer to Baking Dish
Spread the mixture evenly into a greased baking dish, such as a 9×13-inch pan or a large oval casserole.Step 3: Prepare the Pecan Topping
In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, chopped pecans, and melted butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.Step 4: Bake the Casserole
Evenly sprinkle the pecan topping over the sweet potato layer. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping turns golden, crisp, and lightly bubbling.

Step 5: Cool and Serve
Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving to allow it to set for cleaner slices.
