Donald Trump thought he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.
But it was awarded to María Corina Machado from Venezuela instead.
Now, the world waits to see how the president will respond.
Despite the president repeatedly insisting he deserved the honor, the prestigious award went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her tireless fight for democracy in her country.
Trump, who has publicly claimed credit for ending multiple conflicts worldwide, has spent months drawing attention to himself as a potential contender for the prize.
During a February meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, he said:The 79-year-old president has often emphasized his diplomatic accomplishments, claiming that he has resolved conflicts without ceasefires. Speaking in August at a summit with Ukrainian and European leaders, Trump said:I’ve done six wars, I’ve ended six wars. If you look at the six deals I settled this year, they were all at war. I didn’t do any ceasefires.”
the lead-up to the announcement, Trump’s name frequently topped international odds lists after he claimed he “deserved” the award for his diplomatic efforts
Despite his insistence, the Nobel Prize for 2025 went to María Corina Machado.
