I was meeting my boyfriend’s parents for the first time. They were lovely, warm people, and we got along so well that I felt instantly at ease. We shared stories over lunch, laughed at silly jokes, and everything seemed perfect. After lunch, I excused myself to the restroom. When I returned, though, I noticed an odd tension in the room. Their smiles seemed strained, and my boyfriend’s father avoided eye contact.
My boyfriend quickly stood up and said, “Let’s go, honey.” Confused, I followed him to the car. As soon as we drove off, he blurted out, “You could’ve at least warned me!” Shocked, I asked, “Warned you about what?” He glanced at me, clearly upset. “My parents thought it was you who left that note on their fridge. It says, ‘See you at the meeting tonight — don’t forget the password!’ I’ve been telling them for weeks that you’re shy and quiet.
